Science activity

Scientific activity of the Department is based on perspective and current development plans of the Department and University.

The Department is constantly involved in various competitions conducted by the Ministry of education on allocation of grants on programs of basic and applied research, which, along with teachers, active participation of graduate and undergraduate students of the Department.

The chair participates in competitions on formation of the Republican scientific and technical programs of development of science-intensive productions.

The results of research are issued in the form of monographs, textbooks, scientific articles, applications for inventions, reports at scientific and technical conferences of various levels (including international).

Participants of the 5th international conference. Metallurgy section. KSIU. October, 2009.

The results of scientific research are regularly published in national and foreign journals, collections of works.

Teachers, undergraduates of the Department are also actively engaged in inventive work.

The main directions of scientific activity of the Department:

• Development, improvement and pilot testing of technology for production of nanostructured materials by methods of intensive plastic deformation.

• Development and improvement of technology of rolling of billet in grooved rolls, realizing the intense shear deformation, with the aim of obtaining metal with sub-ultra-fine-grained structure and high mechanical properties.

• Use of plasticity resource of continuously cast billets for production of hot – and cold-rolled sheet metal with the set structure and properties in the conditions of JSC “AMT”.

• Development of technology for forging of metals and alloys in the tool, realizing intensive plastic deformation, with the aim of obtaining metal with sub-ultra-fine-grained structure and improved mechanical and operational properties with little energy and labor costs.

• Development and improvement of technology of obtaining and deformation of alloy of the system Al-Si-Fe with the goal of providing the ability to plastic deformation and impart a high level of physical and mechanical characteristics.

• Development of theoretical and technological bases of al-Si-Fe system alloy production with optimal chemical composition providing the ability to undergo intensive plastic deformation.

• Development of theoretical and technological bases for obtaining prismatic blanks with a high level of physical and mechanical characteristics through the implementation of a simple shear scheme in the roller tool.

• Development and research of innovative hot rolling technology to produce high-quality wire rod with minimal material and energy costs.

In recent years, very successfully developed and investigated technologies and tools to produce nanostructured materials. This scientific direction is implemented within the framework of the Department non-funded, as well as funded from the state budget of Kazakhstan research topics and programs, including national programs of basic research.

The results of scientific research in this direction were the defense of candidate, doctoral and master’s theses, publication of scientific articles in various collections of scientific works, in scientific journals, including journals with non-zero impact factor, participation in international and national conferences, the creation of a number of inventions.

Base of industrial experiments, research, industrial testing and introduction of scientific developments of the Department are the rolling plant of JSC “ArcelorMittal Temirtau” and press-forging shop of the LLP “Kurylys-Met”.
