In order to develop the debate student movement and the intellectual potential of student youth, on March 15, 2021, a demonstration debate tournament was held at the Karaganda Industrial University, organized by the strongest KIU debaters for first and second year students.
The topic of the trial game was a resolution on the life of student youth in quarantine conditions, as well as the transfer of experience, a demonstration of eloquence and an exciting game of strong opponents.
During the debate, the head of the debate club «Abadan» Alikhan Bederov told about the structure of the club, about the directions in the debate games, what types of debates are available, and fully acquainted with the preparatory stage of the debate. During the demonstration game, the teams demonstrated excellent oratory skills, thereby attracting the interest of our students.
The game caused a positive response from all participants, a large number of students appeared who wanted to take part in the debate movement and learn how to play debates.
Students will be able to implement the acquired knowledge and skills already this year. This game has become a kind of preparatory stage for them for future debate tournaments.
Debate is a very interesting and educational game. Debate, as a system of structural discussions, has its origins in ancient Greece, where it was an important element of democracy.
The positive aspects of the technology of debate include: the formation of an attitude for a deep and comprehensive consideration of the issue in preparation for the debate, the development of the ability to analyze and compare various ideas and facts, draw informed conclusions, build a chain of evidence, the development of the ability to concentrate on the essence of the problem, the ability to master the skills of a culture of discussion : the ability to hear the arguments of opponents, to correctly use the language of non-verbal communication (facial expressions, gestures, intonation), the development of the ability to clearly organize and express one’s thoughts in oral and written form, fostering tolerance for various points of view, including those different from one’s own.
We also note that the debaters of our university are among the strongest in the Karaganda region. They can make a real show of speakers out of debates, every year they prove their oratory skills at the regional and republican levels!
