A great contribution to science was the creation of the dissertation council K14.31.05 (approved by the order of DANK of Kazakhstan dated February 26, 1998 No. 52-1zh) on the basis of the department for the advocacy of scientific theses in the specialty “Foundations and Basements”, with the chairman Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor Zhusupbekov A.Zh. From 1998 to 2001 scientific theses were advocated by 14 candidates, including citizens from Japan, Turkey and Cambodia.
The Department “Construction” is working on the following topics:
• Studies of building structures, soil and foundation.
• Development of geotechnology for deep foundation pile foundations.
• Development of promising foundation designs in complex engineering and geological conditions.
• Studies of the interaction of pile foundations with soil foundations in the conditions of the Karaganda region in the development of coal deposits.
• Use of industrial waste in construction.
The department also provides scientific and technical support in the construction, operation and reconstruction of industrial, civil buildings and structures.
The teaching staff of the department carries out research work on concluded contracts.
The department provides practical assistance to construction organizations on the organization of production, the introduction of new technologies aimed at saving building materials.
Scientists of chair on the basis of scientific researches wrote over 600 articles, including monographs, more than 200 copyright certificates on inventions, including over 20 patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and CIS countries are received.
In 1997 for the first time in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan National Geotechnical Association was created on the basis of the «Civil Engineering and Ecology» department, which included more than 70 specialists from different universities and organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its currently functioning at ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov.
On May 28-31, 1997 the association, chair, the Ministry of science and education of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of the Euroasian state university of a name of Gumilev held the Ist Kazakhstan national geotechnical conference with participation of foreign experts on a subject «Foundation engineering problems in soil conditions of the new capital».
On May 25 – 28, 2000 was carried out the Ist Central Asian geotechnical symposium on a subject \ «Geotechnical problems of construction, architecture and ecology at a turn of the XXI century».
On August 3-4, 2001 was carried out the Kazakh-Japanese Geotechnical seminar under the auspices of the Kazakhstan and Japanese geotechnical associations.
The chair participates with scientific reports in work of the international symposiums and conferences in the various countries of the near and far abroad.
On problems of geotechnical construction specialists of chair took part in scientific conferences, symposiums of the leading countries of Europe, Asia, Australia.
SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT
The scientific researches at the department are conducted in five areas in full accordance with the research plan at the department. The scientific work planned for the academic year is reflected in the individual plans of teachers, which are approved at the first meeting of the department of the upcoming academic year. In addition the scientific and methodological seminar is working at the department, at which performers and leaders of scientific areas talk about the received results of the researches.
On August 27-28, 2010 the defense of a doctoral dissertation on the topic «Scientific basis for forecasting precipitation of progressive foundations in the undermined territories» (Bazarov B.A.) and Ph.D. thesis «The study of the bearing capacity of piles of vertical load in the developed areas» (Konakbaeva A.N.) passed. On April 1, 2017 the defense of Kaldanova Balzhan Oralovna for the degree of Phd passed.
In 2011 the head of the department Bazarov B.A. received «Best Teacher of the Year» award.
The teachers of the department actively participate in the implementation of contractual topics under the guidance of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Bazarov B.A. and Professor Filatov A.V.
In 2017 the student of the group S-14, Bazarov Adil Baurzhanovich, took the 1st place in the nomination «Project of the Future» at the Republican Student Olympiad «Zhas Tolgyn». In the same year he was awarded the Medal «Scientist of the Future» by the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy of Almaty and the scholarship of the Fund of the First President of Kazakhstan – the Leader of the Nation.
In 2018-2019 51 articles were prepared for publication and 26 of them were published in proceedings of international and national scientific conferences. Eight publications were prepared by the students and undergraduates for the same period.

SCIENTIFIC WORK WITH STUDENTS
The research work of students is a continuation and deepening of the educational process and, therefore, one of the components of the training of highly qualified specialists. As part of the educational process, SRWS is carried out by students in the form of abstracts, research, laboratory works, term papers and dissertations containing research elements, as well as when performing specific tasks of a research during the practice. Theses with elements of research are closely related to the state budget topics of the departments, which indicates practical orientation and real significance.
Each year, the results of research are reported at the intra-university scientific and technical conference of faculty, staff and students, at which on average over the past three years more than 30 reports were heard.
