On December 10, in honor of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the opening of the Nazarbayev Hall, the Digital Technologies Competence Center, a coworking center and a commemorative plaque on the educational and laboratory building took place at the Karaganda Industrial University, which is a gift from the outstanding graduate of the Plant – VTUZ, the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy N.A. Nazarbayev his Alma-mater to the 10th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

For the Karaganda Industrial University, the personality of Elbasy is of great importance, since it was in this university that Nursultan Abishevich received his higher education. He never forgets his home university. In 2017, the year of the 50th anniversary of the graduation of the First President, Nursultan Abishevich wrote warm words of congratulations to the staff of the Karaganda Industrial University: «With a feeling of special pride, I always remember that half a century ago, after graduating from this university, then called VTUZ, among other graduates I got a ticket to production.»

The guests of honor of the events were Ospanova Kadisha Bazarbayevna – first deputy chairman of the regional branch of the Nur Otan party, Lomakin Alexey Borisovich – secretary of the city maslikhat, associates of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, veterans of metallurgy Omashev Kuanysh Omashevich, Iskakov Toktarkhan Ibrayevich, Tuleubaev Ermeksek Ibrail, first deputy Azhikov Nurzhan Khamidulovich, chairman of the Temirtau branch of the Nur Otan party.

The main purpose of the hall is a consistent detailed demonstration of the role of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy N.A. Nazarbayev in the history of independent Kazakhstan. The hall presents bright events in the life of Nursultan Abishevich: years of study in Dneprodzerzhinsk, at the plant-VTUZ, the beginning of his social and party activities. The black-and-white gamut of the photographs presented convey the unique atmosphere of the distant 60-70s. Nazarbayev Hall project was developed by students of the specialty «Construction».

The opening of the Digital Technologies competence center at KarIU became possible thanks to large-scale partnerships. First of all, thanks to the support of the Kazakhstan Academy of Infocommunications. Earlier in the regional center of the CISCO Networking Academy, opened on the basis of the university, more than 100 teachers of schools and colleges of the region have already been trained. The main goal of the new Center is the implementation of innovative scientific and applied developments in demand by business and the state in the Kazakhstani and international markets; development of import-substituting technologies and services with the involvement of university staff, undergraduates, doctoral students, students, representatives of enterprises.

The main goal of opening a coworking center is the development of public initiatives, social projects of youth, support for older people. In October 2020, a pilot project «Silver University» was launched at the Karaganda Industrial University, within which older people will gain knowledge of computer literacy, the basics of entrepreneurship , skills of working with the e-government portal.
