The tenth Presidential Olympiad in the subjects of the natural-mathematical cycle was held in Temirtau. The Olympics was initiated personally by the Head of State – the Leader of the Nation, Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2007. Eleven-graders from all regions of the country gathered in Karaganda State Industrial University to measure their knowledge in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology.

At the opening ceremony of the Olympiad, Sholpan Kyrabayeva, director of the republican scientific and practical center “Daryn” spoke.

“Dear friends, we are glad to see you in Temirtau, the city where the labor and political formation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev was held,” said Sholpan Kyrabayeva. – Traditionally, the Olympiad is held on the eve of the Day of the First President of the country.

Speaking at a meeting with gifted children in 2007, the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev emphasized the importance and importance for the future of the country of mastering the basics of the natural sciences: mathematics as the driving force of the economy, physics, chemistry, biology. He gave a personal instruction to hold an olympiad in four subjects among graduates. The Presidential Olympiad differs from the others in that each participant at all stages performs assignments on four subjects simultaneously. Therefore, in the course of the Olympiad, the selection of gifted students with high interdisciplinary knowledge is purposefully conducted.

The Olympiad consists of three stages. The first – regional, was held in the oblasts, in the cities of Astana and Almaty, the republican organizations of education and the autonomous organization of education “Nazarbayev Intellectual schools”, the second – the qualifying. And, finally, at the third stage – the republican stage – the gifted graduates met in the city of the First President, in Temirtau.

As the scientists and organizers noted, the Presidential Olympiad in the subjects of the natural-mathematical cycle is a special kind of intellectual competition, which has no analogues in the near and far abroad. This is a kind of search for young talents in the field of mathematics and natural science.

The colleague of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev, the former secretary of the city committee of Temirtau, Nina Vakhitova, wished the young talents the same perseverance in knowledge and the will to win, as in Nursultan Abishevich. He was heartily greeted by participants of the republican olympiad Kuanysh Ospanov, deputy head of the regional education department, on the Karaganda soil. Academician of the National Scientific Academy of RK Mukhtarbay Otelbaev wished success to all participants of the 10th Presidential Olympiad, their teachers who inspire young talents, and parents who support them.

The geeks themselves were cheerful and tuned to victories and medals. On the opening day of the Olympics, a festive concert was organized for them. The Olympians also got acquainted with the sights of Temirtau, made excursions to the Historical and Cultural Center of the First President of the RK, to the unique Winter Garden.

Traditionally, young universal “geniuses” of Almaty and Astana are considered the best at the Presidential Olympiad. However, representatives of our region, in particular, Tohtara Aubakirova from Temirtau. Director of the educational institution Sergei Uryvaev said that last year a graduate Konstantin Do received a “silver”. This year also two gymnasium students take part in the Olympiad.

– Pupils of our gymnasium try not to yield to the capital’s educational institutions, they traditionally win at city, regional, republican competitions and olympiads, – the director of the gymnasium noted. “Having won a few years ago at the Republican contest” Leader of the 21st Century “in Almaty, where senior pupils of the republic’s schools competed, the Aubakyrovs still occupy a leading position in Temirtau.

At the final stage of the Olympiad, 163 schoolchildren with the highest score were admitted. By the decision of the jury diplomas of the first degree and gold medals were awarded to 6 participants, diplomas of the second degree and silver medals – 13, diplomas of the third degree and bronze medals – 21 schoolchildren. The greatest number of awards was won by the teams of Almaty, East Kazakhstan, South Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions.

The greatest number of points was collected by Fedor Shelestov (specialized lyceum No. 165, Almaty), Oleg Li (specialized school-lyceum No. 90, Almaty) and the student of the graduation class Arina Kostyrya (Gymnasium No. 5, Rudny, Kostanay oblast).
