On December 5, 2019, Karaganda state industrial university hosted a round table dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the first Kazakh steel, its origins and development. The event was organized by the Department of Metallurgy and mechanical engineering under the leadership of the head of the Department Nurumgaliyev Asylbek Khabadashevich.
The guests of honor of the round table were Zhanibekov Manat Abdrakhmanovich – steelworker of open-hearth shop №2, winner of the state prize KAZ.SSR, a student of the first hero of socialist labor Eleman Baigaziev, Amenov Abu Sadvakasovich-Metallurgist engineer, Deputy head of the KCC, Filippov Gennady Egorovich-chief engineer of long-range rolling production (LRP), an active participant in the development of the project of the (LRP) CCM; Gabdullin Utegen Gabdullaevich – head of open-hearth shop № 2, head of internal audit of JSC “Arcelor Mittal Temirtau” of the largest metallurgical enterprise in Kazakhstan.
The round table was opened by honored Metallurgist Utegen Gabdullaevich Gabdullin, reminding all participants of the event that this year marks exactly 75 years since the release of the first Kazakh steel – this is a truly significant historical event that occupies a special place in the annals of the metallurgical industry of the country. It happened on the very eve of the victorious 1945-December 31, 1944. December 30, 1944 began loading the open-hearth furnace. Nine hours workers loaded 30 tons of metal charge manually! And on December 31, 1944, the first open-hearth furnace of the Kazakh metallurgical plant gave the first steel! This was the date of birth of the Kazakh metallurgical plant and the beginning of the history of domestic ferrous metallurgy. Few people knew about the plant, there was no city of Temirtau yet, but Kazakh steel was already used for the production of weapons and military equipment, bringing Victory in the great Patriotic war closer.
During the event, each of the veteran Steelworkers, a participant of the anniversary smelting shared his personal history related to the first steelmaking, our University and metallurgical plant.
The guests demonstrated presentation material, photos of famous steelmakers, honored metallurgists, the main bright events and a video dedicated to the first steel of Kazakhstan’s Magnitogorsk.
Veteran of the plant Utegen Gabdullin had a chance to work together with Eleman Baigaziev. The former head of the open-hearth shop remembers this man with undisguised admiration. “…Eleman Baigaziev was a mentor of the school of high-speed steelmaking, the initiator of the movement “Melting friendship”, participated in many international melting, glorifying the city of Temirtau and the Republic. For his heroic work, in 1958 Eleman Baigaziev became the first hero of Socialist Labor In our city, in 1959 – Honorary Metallurgist of the USSR, and in 1965 – Honored Metallurgist of the Kazakh SSR. The round table was attended by veterans of labor, honored professors of Karaganda state industrial University Baigabatov Tuleutai Smakovich, Shishkin Yuri Ivanovich, Artykbayev Otepbergen Artykbaevich, Musin Dinislyam Karievich, Smailov Sagadat Amangeldievich and undergraduates of the specialty “metallurgy”.
Under the guidance of our teaching staff, not a single generation of highly qualified metallurgical personnel, specialists and professionals has been brought up.
Summing up, it was noted that modern Kazakhstan Magnitogorsk – the calling card of the Republic of Kazakhstan, recognized as a worldwide production base of the best characteristics of metal, which occupies the first place in the world steel production. Even at the end of 75 years – the metallurgical plant of Temirtau remains one of the largest mining and metallurgical enterprises not only in Kazakhstan, but also one of the best enterprises of JSC”Arcelor Mittal” on the world stage.
At the end of the event, veterans of metallurgical Magnitogorsk sincerely thanked the leadership of Karaganda state industrial university for a great opportunity to share their invaluable experience with the young generation of future metallurgists.
