At the initiative of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, 2020 is declared the Year of the Volunteer in Kazakhstan.
In his speech at the closing of the Youth Year, the Head of State said, noted that in our time it is a mistake to perceive volunteering as just one-time community work day and environmental events-challenges. After all, it is generally accepted that volunteering is a movement that originated in the West, and, they say, has nothing to do with us. But we all know that the very essence of volunteering – to do something from good intentions – is in line with our national traditions and values. Volunteering is not just free work, but an indicator of citizens’ responsibility and readiness to change the world for the better.
Since 2019, our government has specifically launched the “Social Student Voucher” project, which is aimed at supporting volunteer initiatives, to support and develop the volunteer movement in Kazakhstan. Under this project, students who work 20 hours as volunteers receive a reward of 20 thousand tenge, and students who work 50 hours receive 50 thousand tenge.
For the convenience of volunteers, the country launched the online platform QazVolunteer.kz, developed by the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan in conjunction with the ALE “National Volunteer Network”. The work of the qazvolunteer.kz online platform allows you to create channels of interaction between volunteer participants, coordinate the activities of volunteers and volunteer organizations in Kazakhstan, and provide information support for volunteer projects / programs / actions.
The functionality of the qazvolunteer.kz online platform allows volunteers to implement new initiatives, post information about their activities in the public domain, and organizers of projects, actions and events to find volunteers and volunteer organizations. It also forms a rating of volunteers on the platform based on the results of the work.
Visitors to the qazvolunteer.kz online platform can familiarize themselves with materials on international experience of volunteering, positive practice of volunteering in the country, conducted and planned events.
In the Karaganda State Industrial University, over 40 volunteer students take part in the project.
In January 2020, 4 students – volunteers of our university, having successfully passed the project conditions, received 20 thousand tenge. From November to December 2019, they worked under the Social Student Loan program as part of the Republican charity project Zhenis, whose work is aimed at creating and developing an understanding of the values of the relationship between children and the older generation; facilitating the involvement of the target group in the educational process; introduction of new social technologies, psychological support for the elderly; stimulating them to an active, interesting and long life by organizing joint leisure for the elderly and children in the city of Temirtau.
In the city of Temirtau, the Shanyrak volunteer organization is functioning at the Temirtau Youth Club, in which more than 200 active students are involved in the volunteer movement. KSIU volunteers help in orphanages, visit veterans of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers left without relatives, take part in charity work, help the police in finding missing people, participate in socially significant projects of our city, and also conduct a huge number of events a year.
