On January 31, 2020, students of the Karaganda State Industrial University became participants in an information meeting on the development project of the ZhasProject youth corps.
During the event, the meeting participants were able to find out detailed information about the implementation of the Zhas Project project and its main areas of work, the purpose of which is to involve young people in the life of the community, as well as develop vital skills through a public service skills training program for the benefit of our society.
The project started in 2017 and covered about 8500 participants from sixteen regions of Kazakhstan. Since 2020, it will be implemented in Almaty and Karaganda regions.
ZhasProject includes four components:
– the provision of grants of up to 1,000,000 tenge and social scholarships to youth groups for the implementation of social projects;
– training young people in developing vital skills and project management;
– work with vulnerable youth groups;
– Implementation of an effective awareness-raising campaign and a feedback and resolution mechanism.
Project participants undergo three-stage training in the program of vital skills and project management, implement their social projects for five months, and also receive a monthly stipend of 60,000 tenge – graduates of universities, 40,000 tenge – all other participants. In addition, all participants receive the support of mentors during the implementation of their projects.
Also, within the framework of the Project, a competition for the selection of mentors and a grant competition for youth are held.
Anyone between the ages of 14 and 29 years old (except for schoolchildren) living in the territory of the project implementation areas can participate in ZhasProject.
To participate in the Project it is necessary:
- Assemble a team (initiative group) from 3 to 5 people. We recommend attracting the maximum number of participants – the project cannot be implemented by a team of less than three people. If one of the participants leaves the project for good reason, it closes. Substitution of participants will not be made.
- To come up with the idea of a social project that you want to implement – to find a solution to a problem that you have long wanted to solve. You are not limited in choosing an idea for your social project, but in the implementation of some you may encounter a number of nuances and difficulties.
- Each group member must register and fill in all the required fields. Read the application form in advance – during the filling you will need to attach a number of documents, prepare them in advance. Determine which of you will be the leader of the initiative group. Attention: the leader of the group cannot be a participant under 18 years of age.
- Choose the method of application submission – you can implement the project either by your own initiative group, or through the host organization, which will help in writing the application, conducting financial transactions and submitting reports during the implementation of the Project.
- Follow the stages of selection of competitive applications.
- In the event that your team has passed competitive selection, to implement it in a quality manner.
The event was organized with the participation of representatives of the Department of Internal Policy of Temirtau, the Department of Youth Policy, as well as representatives of the coordination agency ZhasProject.

On January 29, 2020, the Introduction to QS Rankings webinar, organized by the head of the Quality Management System department Olga Klimentyevna Pak, was held at the Karaganda State Industrial University.
As you know, the ranking of the best higher education institutions depends directly on the main indicators and achievements of the university in the field of science, education and competitiveness, which is calculated according to the methodology of the British consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) – which is one of the most influential global ratings of the best universities of world significance.
QS World University Rankings was developed in 2004 by Quacquarelli Symonds in conjunction with the British edition of Times Higher Education (THE).
This rating evaluates universities in the following key areas: activity and quality of research activities, employers’ opinions and career potential, teaching and internationalization. These indicators cover the key strategic missions of universities of world significance for which they are responsible to the participants in the process: the academic community, employers, students and their parents. Annually, the study evaluates over 2.5 thousand higher education institutions around the world. Based on its results, a ranking of the 500 best universities in the world is compiled, as well as university ratings in individual disciplines.
The level of university achievement is assessed on the basis of a combination of statistical analysis of the activities of educational institutions, audited data (including information on the citation index from the Scopus database, the world’s largest bibliometric database of scientific publications), as well as data from a global expert survey of representatives of the international academic community and employers, who express their opinions about universities. The following are quantitative and qualitative indicators by which universities are evaluated.
During the webinar, the regional director of QS World University Rankings for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Zoya Zaitseva, told the participants about the methodology for selecting universities in the QS rating and the position of Kazakhstan universities in it.
Zoya Zaitseva focused on how to increase the recognition of the university, as well as what is strictly forbidden to do so as not to lose her position in the QS rating.
At the end of 2019, our university also applied for participation in the QS rating.
As Olga Klimentyevna noted: “Karaganda State Industrial University has a lot of serious work to do to improve its scientometric indicators, internationalization, and recognition among the international academic community. But this process is actively moving forward. ”
