About Electron Microscope Society of India
Electron Microscope Society of India (EMSI) was established on December 2, 1961 at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, West Bengal and the first conference of EMSI was organized during December 2-3 th, 1961. EMSI is affiliated to International Federation of Electron Microscope Societies (IFSM) since 1962 as its 15 member.Electron Microscope Society of India (EMSI) has since been involved in promoting electron microscopy in various fields such as material science, metallurgy, life science, medicine, forensic, geology etc. by organizing conferences annually.
In 2012, Electron Microscope Society of India (EMSI) evolved with a federal structure having five zonal chapters (Central, East, West, North and South), in order to encourage activities at regional level. Each zonal chapter has started activities in the realm of electron microscopy by organizing symposia, workshops, conferences etc. The strength of EMSI has been increasing continuously. It has close to 1000 life members as on May 15, 2013. For more details please visit www.emsi.org.in
About the conference
International Conference on Electron Microscopy and XXXV Annual Meeting of the Electron Microscope Society of India will be jointly organized by University of Delhi, Delhi, India and Electron microscope society of India during July 9 – 11, 2014. This conference provides a platform to the scientists, academicians and engineers working in the field of electron microscopy to showcase their work and advances made in the field of electron microscopy and their use in various interdisciplinary branches of science. This conference also provides an opportunity to scientists, engineers especially young research scholars to interact with stalwarts of field of electron microscopy.Pre-conference workshops have been planned to allow research scholars and scientists especially young ones to learn the basics and advances made in the field of electron microscopy. This conference is expected to be attended by a large number of delegates from India and abroad.
Eminent experts from all over the world will serve as faculty and close interaction will be possible.
Scope
The main use of the electron microscope is to examine the submicroscopic details of the structure and composition of specimen. The electron microscope is used to characterize the microstructure of materials with very high spatial resolution. Information about the morphology, crystal structure and defects, crystal phases and composition, and magnetic microstructure can be obtained by a combination of electron-optical imaging, electron diffraction, and small probe capabilities. Further, it provides significant in situ capabilities, allowing for the investigation of how material structure can evolve due to different environmental factors. Cellular biology explores individual cells and ways in which they are organized into organs and tissues. Structural biologists delve deep into sub-cellular components, organelles and macromolecular structures. The cell processes must be studied individually and as part of integrated events for advances in disease prevention, epidemic control, drug discovery and food production. Electron microscope is a powerful, versatile electron system for delivering 3D characterization of biological and biomaterials samples in cell biology, structural biology, and nanotechnology research.
